Sorry, got to make it simple for me....

Washer loads with water. It washes the clothes a little.
Now it's full of water. Next step should be spin real fast and get rid of water, however it doesn't. It stops and won't go to the next step.
Tried lifting the lid and manually pressing the lever, but no good.

Step by step........what do I do now?

For a good start we need the complete model of the washer. You can find it under the lid.

Gene.
If the washer is less than a year old, the best thing for you is to call Whirlpool for a warranty service.

Sorry, don't know how I missed the 1 yr. old thing.

It's about 7 yrs. old.
All I could find under the lid was "SM8280869"

Full of water now.

This is the serial number. The model number should be above.

Nope. No other numbers on the machine. Even on the back.
Very simple machine. No electronics or anything.

The first failure suspect is a bad lid switch. There are two different, not interchangeable, lid switches and to get the correct part number we need the model number of the washer. It must be on the same name plate with the serial number and should start with three letters.

From looking at others on line. Looks close to ETW4400TQ, but no bleach dispenser.

I will be more than glad to help you but without the proper model number I really don't know what to do.

Per this model number the part number for the lid switch is AP3180933.

In order to access the lid switch you have to open the control panel, according to these instructions (step 1 through step 5).

Here are the break down diagrams for the Roper washer Model ETW4400TQ0
