i replaced rubber drain impeller (maytag part #900894) with the gray center up, and the white center down. i didnt take notice when i removed the old one. is this correct? thanks

These two parts have a graphite rings (bearings). The black on one and the white on another one. They must face each other.

If you are talking about impeller only, then the white part should face down, toward the black graphite ring on the bottom seal.
