Howdy! My washer managed to get all the way through soaping the clothing, and drained the water just before going into the rinse cycle, but then began making a very loud, high-pitched noise. It isn't filling up with water at all, nor is it moving (spinning etc) in any way. What can I do to fix this? Thank you very much for any help! :)

Sounds like a worn belt, or a good belt trying to turn against a locked up brake.
Remove the belt and see if you can rotate the pulley in both directions by hand. In one direction, you'll operate the agitator; the opposite direction separates the brake and allows spin. If the brake doesn't release, you need to replace the brake rotor a nd stator; the thrust baring, and the belt. Not easy.
