Washer agitates then timer stops for transmission shift then nothing, timer does not advance, does not drain, does not spin. It spins in one direction in the agitation mode with only water in the tub, is that normal. when I put reisistance to the agitator, it jerks in only one direction. Any ideas? Pump, clutch, neutral drive? Does this model have belts?

The first thing I would check is the lid switch. If it's open then there is no power to the motor. Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool washer Model LSQ9544KQ0Gene.

I would think so too but it works fine in the wash cycle up to the point of the drain/rinse cycle. does this machine have belts? does anyone know? or is it direct drive? I looked at schematic and could not find them and can't locate the pump either, so is it integrated in gear drive box that cost about $140 to replace. is there a cheaper way to replace the pump?

The pump is attached to the front of the motor with two spring clips. It may be worth your while to check for kinked drain hoses, or clogged pump, but your description of the problem conditions points to either bad timer or loose timer connection(s). It is a direct drive machine.

do you think I could just hot wire the pump directly to see if it works with power to it? then it would definitely point to the timer if it then worked with direct power? what could I damage, besides myself, with such a hairbrained idea?

The pump is actually a piece of plastic with impeller inside. It does not have a separate motor and sitting on the main motor shaft. You can try to jiggle the timer knob to prove it's bad. In my opinion it is . - The part number for the timer is AP3020314 Gene.
