i am replacing the damper kit and it tells me i need a rubber adhesive i was wondering if it is a special kind or will any rubber adhesive work

I think your washer is older than five years. :)

Any decent rubber adhesive should work. Probably 3M weather strip adhesive would be fine. Just clean the surfaces very well and after the glue on the pads has dried you need to lubricate them with the supplied silicone lube. Good luck.
