I ask this because after defrosting last night, I turned off the ice maker and checked some of the food in the freezer compartment. The food was only partially frozen and (by coincidence), the unit cycled into defrost at that vey moment (coils glowed red). This surprised me because the freezer apparently wasn't seemingly cold enough to require a defrost. Though I'm sure there's a flaw in my reasoning, there has to be some logical reason for the issue I'm having.
Appreciate your feedback.
Robin Robin, You almost had it right, (slightly backwards), Have you noticed if, the compressor runs an excessively long time, or cycles in a short period of time ? *** When the compressor is running and cooling, it also advances the timer motor in the defrost timer, when the timer reaches a preset amount of time 8, 10,12, hours, it advances into the defrost cycle and turns the heater on until the defrost thermostat opens and heaters turn off). *** The more or longer time the compressor runs, the sooner the refrigerator goes into defrost. Have you had any cooling problems, or warm temperatures ? You may want to go to a new cold control, and check the wiring, to make sure there's not a problem there. You should also check and make sure the defrost drain tube is not clogged or restricted, and is properly secured in the drip pan, so you're not sucking or forcing warm air up the drain tube and also causing the ice on the evaporator(I've seen this before, but it's not a common occurrence). Good Luck,
