Both Fridge and Freezer are not cold enough even though on coldest setting. Condenser coils and fan are clean. When I took lower backing off, Condenser fan was running, but stopped after a bit. Compressor is very warm to the touch. What else can I look for to troubleshoot?
Thanks!

Was the compressor running when the condensor fan wasn't? Is there ice build up on the rear panel in the freezer? Nat

How can I tell if the compressor is running? There is no ice build up.

The compressor will vibrate when running. An easy test is use a long screw driver like a stethoscope. Nat

Compressor does not seem to be running. If it needs a new compressor, is it worth fixing?

If the compressor isn't running you will want to check the start device/relay overload & the capacitor. If you can remove the start device, shak it if it rattles it's bad, replace those parts. Paying approximately $500 for a compressor swap is a lot cheaper than a new side by side. If the compressor is bad. If in doubt call a appliance technician. Nat

Thank you for the info you gave me! I had a tech come out and he said that compressor is going out. Ordered one online and had friend that is a tech install. Question is how much refridgerent (sp?) do we put in? The sticker says charge 5.25 oz. That can't refer to the amount used, can it? Does seem like that would be enough. Any thoughts?

That's exactly how much to use. Don't use any more than that or it will urn out the compressor again. Your friend should have a scale to weigh how much he is putting in.
