When setting my oven temp above 350, after a few minutes the oven door pops open slightly then closes. Like if an expolsion has happened inside. I also smell gas. When set to 350 this does not happen. This started after I replaced the igniter. What could be causing this.

Check if the igniter installed in the right position. When the gas valve opens, the gas should ignite within 2 seconds or less. Also check the burner for any burned through holes. Check the flame - the air mixture probably needs an adjustment.

Is the air mixture adjustment something that a sharp home owner can do or is this time to call a service technician in?

There is a ring on the bottom of the burner (where it comes to the gas valve). You have to rotate this ring to adjust the air mixture.
