I have a GE washer that is having problems. The first sign was the machine was not spinning and then motor would be very hot. Once the motor cools, it will run if I manually turn the pully some. At times the larger pulley is very hard to turn. Sounded like a slight dragging sound coming from the brake area. So I pulled the tub/transmission. When I pulled the metal frame work from the bottom of the tub, the black gasket/brake pad that the disk rubs on is cracked. Can this cause the brake to drag? Is there another adjustment on the brake? Can I replace just this "brake pad"? Any help would be great.
Thanks Chris

You're going to need a whole transmission if I'm understanding your post.

Unfortunately, they do not sell the brake shoes for this although I read where someone replaced his brake shoes, probably from a junked washer.

Well, I have been trying to fix my machine. Seems that now the brake is dragging. Is there a way to adjust this? When I eyeball the disk, it looks like when it is fully retracted (in the released state), it just barely gets below the brake pad/base. What has changed or worn out? Any advice. I don't know where to look next.
Thanks again Chris

No adjustment for the brake shoes. Just try to get a used set.

If your machine is under 5 years the transmission is under warranty but the labor is not
