My ice maker is making ice but when I try to dispense it into a glass nothing comes out and it makes a really revving loud noise. I have emptied and cleaned out the ice bin to make sure that there isn't anything stuck in the bin, but it still makes loud revving noise and no ice comes out. Please help :)

Have you checked to see if the auger drive fork is loose or stripped on the motor shaft or the backup nut is loose ?

Part number: AP3795799
Part number: AP3795799

Remove the bin assembly and attempt to turn the fork, it should have some resistance, and should not "wiggle" or be loose when you do this.

Good Luck,

Thanks for the reply. I tried what you suggested and neither one seems to be loose. Not really sure why it stopped working all of the sudden. It still makes ice, but just doesn't dispense it. Frustrating!

OK,

What do you mean by"revving loud noise" and when does it occur (cubed selection, crushed selection etc. ?

Try this next,

Open the freezer door, remove the bin, hold the door light switch in and dispense ice, Does the motor and fork turn, using both selections ?

Tried what you suggested. Removed the bin and motor and fork turned using both selections. Sound is probably more like a loud buzzing. Just noticed that the auger asm disp (part #AP3672963) is cracked and seems to be missing a piece. Could this be causing the noise and the ice not to be dispensed?

Yes,

The damaged auger is most likely the problem for the no dispense problem.

We've eliminated the motor and fork, that leaves the bin assembly as the culprit.

But I'm still concerned with noise, did it make the noise with the bin out ?

Did you have a problem with crushed or cubed ice before this no dispense situation occurred ?

I'm suspecting the cube solenoid(in the back by the fork and motor) is noisy or jammed ?

Re check the operation with the bin out and locate the noise, please.

Thanks,

Tired it again with the bin out and there is still a buzzing noise when cubed ice, but not crushed ice. I think that the noise may have been there before, but not as loud as it is now. If the cube solenoid is the problem, is this something that I'm going to be able to fix myself?

Yes,

You should be able to replace the cube solenoid with little to no problem.

Getting to it is the hard part.

You have to remove the back panel housing(the box, where the auger motor and fork are).

Part number: AP2071947

Just be careful and unplug the refrigerator first.

Good Luck,
