My dryer (frigidaire model FER641FS0) was working fine until recently. When you push the start button it makes a low hum/buzz and nothing happens. It makes that low sound until you release the button. The vents/ducts are all clear and clean. The lint trap/filter was a little clogged so I cleaned it well with a brush in warm water. I checked the drum and it rotates freely by hand. I then tried rotating the drum manually with the door button pressed in and hit the start button and it started up (I only let it run a few seconds just to see if it started). From reading some on here I am thinking it is the motor. This is only 2.5 years old so I was a little let down that it could be the motor in that amount of time.
So does it sound like it is the motor? If so, how difficult is it to replace? Thanks for any help/info.

Looks like your diagnosis is correct and the problem is a bad motor. If you know how to handle a simple tools, this part is not too difficult to replace yourself. The disassembly instructions are attached to the reply. - The motor Part number: AP2107144

Thanks so much Gene. I wish it was something minor, but it sounds like the motor isn't too tough to replace.
By the way, I double checked the model # inside the door and it itFER641FS0, there is no "C". Does that change anything? I assume that would stil be the correct motor The dryer was pruchased 12/2007. Thanks again!!!
While I am tearing it apart, is there anything else that I should change or check just as maintenance?

This motor is the most common motor used by Frigidaire for a few last years, so this part number should be good.
It's a good idea to clean the dryer from the lint build up and check all moving parts and the belt.

Now that I have the dryer dismantled, the motor turns freely, the belt looks fine and nothing is blocking the motor or drum. I removed the belt from the motor and plugged it back in and the same low hum/buzz was heard. So since the motor doesn't turn even when disconnected from the belt and it rotates freely by hand, does that confirm that the motor is shot or is there something else I need to check? Thanks again for the help.
When I order the new motor do I need any other parts or is it a straight forward swap from old motor to new motor?

So I am having a tough time getting the blower fan off the motor shaft. I can see why people have difficulty with this part. Is there any tips or tricks or is it coming down to me also having to buy a new blower unit. It is crazy to make the nut out of molded plastic...what kind of engineering is that?
I have the motor on the way from this store now please help me avoid having to get a new blower unit and sink $60+ more into this. Thanks for any and all help!!!

How did you try to remove the fan blade? It has a left-handed thread.
Here are the instructions:
Using a 7/8" socket turn the fan blade clockwise while holding the motor shaft.

I saw where it was a left hand thread and the fan blade has the arrow pointing in the direction for removal, but at first my socker slipped on the plastic nut part. I did finally get it off with a little pressure. It luckily came off nicely. So now I just wait the dryer motor and all should be well. I am going to get some high temp lube and use that while it is torn apart. What areas should I lubricate aside from the drum ball assmebly? Thanks.
