When i start the dryer it runs for approximently 5minutes and then it trips the circut breaker; could this be the result of a defective high limit thermostat and/or thermal cut-off ? I haven't checked the parts as of yet for continuity. just curious if there are other possibilities to consider.

Unless you have a direct short "which would be kinda obvious cause of the spark" I would say you have a weak breaker, how old is the house?

I agree with the weak breaker, But it wouldn't hurt to check the dryer out at the same time.

Thank you so much !; it was in fact the breaker. The breaker was a 40 amp and the guy at Home Depot said I needed a 30 amp so i installed it today and ran the dryer for a cycle to test and make sure that it was working properly. I am happy there are places like this here on the net to help poor souls like myself. Thanks again , rocker5164:)
