Hi I am hoping you can help me... I have a GE quality space maker laundry unit in my apartment. I tried to wash a comforter (stupid thing to do I know!!) and I smelled a burning rubber smell when it hit the rinse cycle. My thought is I broke the belt?? So, I removed the comforter and waited a day.. I ran the washer through a cycle with nothing in it to see if it happened again.. and on the Rinse cycle the smell started again. The washer works fine, it fills with water and it seems to be working (so I am hoping I did not screw up the motor since it works okay up until the rinse cycle). I am looking for the belt to replace it as well as instructions and scymatics for this? I would Really Really Really appreciate help!!! and/or any input as to what it may and how to fix it.. The unit is only 6 years old...

Amy,

Remove the washer front panel by unscrewing the two screws on its bottom and sliding it down. Check the drive belt and the tensioner.

Gene,
Please check out my post labeled "Washer Bleaches Clothing" and let me know if you have ever heard of anything like this before. Is there any possible way that there is left over chemicals in the bleach dispenser after several uses and even sending water through to rinse it out? Is there a way to completely disconnect the bleach dispenser?

Amy,

Worn out belt is pretty common cause of such smell, but you have to inspect it to verify if it is correct.
