My machine is the; Whirlpool (Imperial Series Clean Touch, 8 cycle-2 speed) washer. Model # LST8244BQ1-12 years old.
The washer works fine in the wash and spin cycles. The problem occurs when entering its rinse cycle in any of the different settings. The water won’t drain prior to it, and doesn’t agitate once it’s in the rinse cycle. The timer’s ticking can be heard and you can see it advancing through the cycles.
If you pull the control knob out firmly and hold it there while it’s attempting to rinse, it will sometimes drain, fill and agitate, although, this seems to work intermittently in the delicate cycle only. Also, more often than not, after completing the spin cycle, the clothes will still be standing in half a tub of water.
After looking at the forum I would imagine that it’s the timer. Does this sound like the most likely cause? Before I replace it, is there some way of eliminating the possibility of a bad lid switch instead?

Unfortunately, today it’s not consistently agitating in the wash cycle either. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a novice so I will ask first-when I unplug the wire harness, will it just "pull" straight off? Anything to be aware of before hand so I don't end up disturbing those wires?
Also, does that stem seated in the center of the timer need to be pulled out slightly from the back first with needle nose pliers to "unlock" the timer to make it removable?

This should not be a part of your timer problem.

It may be that the agitator was not placed correctly when the dogs were replaced, or that the dogs have broken, but this latter is unlikely if they were just replaced.

I would take off the agitator, check it out and reseat it.
