E6 F2 error code problem: Whirlpool double oven. Display goes blank, but touch-pad keys will beep when pressed, and light key will turn on light in oven. Reset circuit breaker, oven display came on fine and all worked. Next day the display was blank again. Reseter breaker, but it stayed blank. Buttons still beeped when pressed. Today I observed E6 F2 on display. Hit "start/enter" button and the code disappeared and display went to normal, with correct clock time and all functions of oven working! What does this error code combo mean, and what parts do I need? If I need to try disconnecting and reconnecting the keypad ribbon, how do I do that?

Thanks!

Try this:

  • You have either a bad ERC (clock) or a bad touch pad. Here is the procedure for determining your problem.
• Disconnect power to stove
  • Gain access to the back of the clock (electronic range control or ERC).
  • Unplug the touch pad ribbon connector from the ERC. This will be a flat wire apx. 1 1/2" to 2" wide.
  • Make sure everything is clear and will not short out when power is turned back on.
  • Turn power back on to stove.
  • Watch for codes and listen for the beep.
  • If you get a code and beep, replace the ERC.
  • If after apx. 30 minutes you do NOT get the F1 and hear the beep, replace the touch pad.
NOTE: Some models incorporate the touch pad and the clock as one part.
Teh tech sheet shows the E6 is the:
CANCEL key drive line open says replace controls.
Hope that helps
Nat

Thanks a lot for your help - I like to know how things work, so I really appreciate this.

I did as you said, but cut off power with the circuit breaker as the unit is hardwired into a junction box on the wall:

• Turned off circuit breaker
• Unplugged ribbon connector from back of ERC
• Everything looked clear, but when circuit was flipped on, a short occurred and automatically flipped it right back off.
• Really made sure everything was clear and wouldn't short
• Flipped on circuit and got the following:
• 1 long beep right away, then silence until:
• b-b-b-beeeeep, beep beep beep beep pattern once at 60 or so seconds
• That's all. No display or code ever came on.

Then I plugged the ribbon back in and flipped the breaker back on, which resulted in:
• 1 long beep right away,
• PF and the time of day appeared in the display right away
• After 10 or more seconds the display went blank
• b-b-b-beeeeep, beep beep beep beep pattern once at 60 or so seconds, display remains blank.

So, it seems I got a mix of what we were looking for with the ribbon-disconnect test; some beeps, but no codes. What would that indicate needs replacing?

Probably both the ERC & touch pad. The ERC is a little salty though, so you might get the touch pad and pray for the best!
