The washer will fill and it will spin, and empty, but it will not agitate. Instead it makes a loud humming noise from the motor

Pull the outer panel, remove pump and motor and turn the tranny coupler counterclockwise. Check to see if the agitator agitates, if not you have a bad tranny.

Ok, i checked the tranny, like you said, and now it appears to be working agian. Why would it not work, and then just start working agian?

A piece of the coupler may have jammed the motor, just check, or the pump may have jammed temporarily.
