Maytag washer model LAT9206BAE will agitate and will pump water but can not get enough speed when trying to spin. Also will eat up belt. Will turn free clockwise but not counter clockwise. I thought it was the belt slipping and put a new on on but it ate it too.

If I can get some feed back on my , i will contact you to see if I can help you out... Let me checjk your model # and pull out the service manual from the experts...

The machine does not make a grinding noise. I removed the transmission cover looking for any damage, and everything looks ok. I can spin the transmission drive pulley clockwise and it turns freely, when I turn it counter-clockwise, the brake assembly engages and the transmission is hard to turn by hand, and the belt will slip when I put the washer in the spin cycle. I don't know how to tell if the brake assembly may be the problem or the transmission.
