It happened to ours too and keeps getting worse. I think it would be cheaper for us to buy a new washing machine than replace it. I feel like it will break again after being replaced.

Same exact issue here- bought mine around 2019/2020 from a local appliance store. Top load, rear left hinge where door lock is, broken. Our machine is in a laundry "closet" nothing, no one, no pets- can get near it, and I don't muscle it- it broke on its own.

We bought our machine 2020. A little over two years old. The back right corner is cracked. Same side as lid lock on front. We bought an extended warranty at time of purchase. Hoping they can fix everything.

My lid is broken too. I’m glad I found this. Knowing this is happening to so many people and I’m sure there’s countless more that don’t even know they aren’t the only ones. Looks like Maytag can fix this problem or have a class action lawsuit for making a bad product.

I have the same problem with the lid on my maytag top load washer model MVWB765FW4, this is a situation where a LEMON LAW should apply, MAYTAG send me a new ALL METAL replacement. Maytag wants $476.07 for the part plus shipping and no telling what the cost is for a tech if needed, I paid $565.00 for the washer at Lowes. CRAZY BAD DESIGN, everyone needs to contact their congressman, and, report it to the box store where you bought the machine, encourage the store to stop carrying the brand.

I only buy top load washers. They have fewer plastic parts and overall last longer. Our last Kenmore lasted 19 years.

Same issue w maytag washer. Bought 2019. Top glass lid plastic frame just began cracking then literally crumbling like it was ancient plastic. Lid pops up on left side which stops washer as its the locking side. Can only use if we put 40lb of barbell weights on top. Really unhappy. Quite expensive. Not going to pay $450 + tax/labor (quote i was given in CT) for new lid WHICH includes part w hinge (as left side housing for hinge lock is too desintegrated to reuse originak lid) omg! I spent 800+ @ home depot. Cannot believe this is whats become of maytag- no more quality i guess. Sickening!
