I purchased a Maytag top load washer on May 4, 2019 from Home Depot. 21 months later the left hinge broke, which is made of plastic. An appliance repairman was called and quoted $400 to fix the problem, plus labor. Of course, he charged for the visit he made. I have called Maytag's toll free number and researched whether or not there has been a recall on this model. There are other customers that have had the same problem, and Maytag is aware of the plastic hinges breaking, but there is no recall.
It is too early for a class action lawsuit; however the front load Maytag washers were having similar problems less than three years ago. Spending $400 plus labor to have this 21 month old Maytag Bravo top load washer repaired doesn't make sense. Are there any other customers facing this or do you have any suggestions other than purchasing another brand of top load washer or keep pouring money into this Maytag washer?
Thanks.

I’m having the same problem with my Maytag lid. Any resolution from Maytag?

Same here with the hinge. Bought it in Feb 2019 and left hinge cracked causing it to not lock unless we push the top down and wait for it to lock. When the wash cycle is over, it beeps until we touch the lid and then it unlocks and turns off. Apparently this is an issue with these machines and should be a recall.

I have the same issue. We purchased the MayTag Bravo washer and dryer.in 2018. The left hinge broke and we called the repairman out and we were quoted the same price $400 plus labor. Hell if I am going to pay $400 for repairs and install. I will go ahead and just by a new washer

Same issue purchase Nov 22 from Lowes, a bad design for a highly functional mechanical moving part to made out of plastic for the housing.

Same issue here too. Washer is less than two years old. Left hinge cracked and the lid won't stay closed.

Same issue. Bought 10/19 and broken/crumbled 9/21. Plastic hinge housings don’t work. Maytag lists new lid at $429. Found a used one on EBay and will replace myself. Never buying Maytag again:(

Our lid broken again. We bought the washing machine from Home Depot in 2019. The 1st lid broke at both hinges and was replaced for free by Maytag last year, 2020. The new lid is now broken at the left hinge and Maytag told us a new lid is $299 but the lid is not available.
