My Maytag Bravos MVWX655DW1 will not spin much. The agitator works, but the drum won't spin much. The belt and pulleys are looking good and tight. The nuts are tight. Nothing is clogged. Nothing feels or looks out of place underneath.

The drum spins easily by hand with no sounds. There was a grinding noise yesterday when it was spinning, but nothing today.

Is there a gear or something that would allow the agitator to spin and not the drum?

So you are saying that when the unit is in spin mode that the agitator spins but not the drum?
If so it may be the actuator (shifter) is not engaging the gear-case to spin the drum. This is a frequent part that fails.

It may also be a bad gear-case.

I have the same issue; also, a week before this started, the washer would not balance when spinning no mater how I arranged the clothes. Are these two symptoms related?
Thanks for any help.

No your issue is bad suspension rods. To verify they are bad perform the bounce test. See video for reference.

Look up your model number on APP and find your rods.
