If it's a roaring noise that increases with speed you're probably in need of a shaft and tube assembly. Pop the front off and look for evidence of a leak down the center post. There's two release clips at the top of the panel that will allow the entire panel to be removed. You need to slide a putty knife or similar flat tool under the clips to lift them out of the panel. Before that however spin it by hand as fast as you can and see if the noise is detectable, that will largely rule a motor issue out. The shaft and tube asm isn't a difficult repair except the hub nut removal at the bottom of the basket. There's a special tool that we use, a huge adjustable wrench may get it off but space is an issue in there. It is reverse thread. GE WH38X10019 Shaft & Tube Asm - AppliancePartsPros.com
