Our dryer quit turning last week. Thermal fuse blew. I replaced and it blew again. Had tech come out, said it was thermistor. He said the element looked fine. Said 5-7 days for part to arrive, which didn't thrill my wife (too much laundry in our house!). I called repairman and told him I found the part locally and would repair myself.
After I replaced thermistor, I found only instructions how to test thermistor. I tested the old one and it seemed to be doing what it should based on the test. I turned the dryer on with the new parts in on 'AIR DRY' setting and the dryer got VERY HOT. Also seemed like while running the power cut intermittently from a fraction of a second a few times while it was running. Is this an indication that the motherboard is bad? I tested the element with a volt meter (while still in place with terminals disconnected) and it seemed to pass the test.
Don't want to replace the motherboard and find out it is something else. This was an expensive dryer and i am not ready to replace it if it is something that can be fixed at a reasonable cost.

Could you be more specific about what tests you have done? Is there 240vac to heater with unit running in air dry? Have you ohmed the heater leads to the chassis?

Thanks for the response. I have tested the Thermistor using a YOUTUBE video (PARTS DR.) as a guide checking for resistance with digital multimeter. Also did the same to test the heating element (REPAIR ************ VIDEO) to check for continuity. The dryer didn't give any error codes that I saw. Other than replacing the thermal fuses, I haven't done any other tests.

Disconnect the wiring leads on the element and use your meter to ohm between one of the leads and the case around the heater to see if the heater has shorted to the case. Otherwise, it sounds like a new board is in your future. The element shouldn't come on in air dry.

When you refer to the 'case' do you mean the metal housing that the element is
fastened to? Does it matter which lead I touch for this test? I will try this- what should the meter read when I do this? Sorry, this is not something I am adept at. Just need to make sure that I properly interpret your suggestion.

Yes I mean the case the element is inside of. It does not matter what lead you touch. The meter should read an open circuit. There should not be any continuity between the two.

Thanks, will try it tonight. Hopefully this will not become a situation that I invest quite a bit of money and not get to the bottom of the issue....My biggest concern is that there doesnt seem to be a error code- most situations I've see online where the control board needs to be replaced on this particular model had similar symptoms but also had an error code. I know that this is kind of the nature of the beast- eliminate thru replacement- but seems like there would be a way to just test the control board without the process of elimination.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaABV5WV6sI This was the video I used but got additional info from another source (not sure which one now) but it suggested to heat the thermistor with a hair dryer and if the reading starts dropping, the thermistor is doing what it is supposed to do. The reading you get will vary based on the temperature of the room you are testing in, so the reading on the video may be a bit misleading- look at the chart near the end of the video to get a better idea of what the reading will be in your environment.

:o cbmserviceguy- Thanks for all your advise on this thread- tested as suggested and ended up ordering the Main Control Board. Installed yesterday and now my wife is happy again. appreciate your help!
