Hello all,
I have a maytag performa dryer that will not turn off using the timer. If i open the door the unit turns off and if i advance the timer manually to the off position it will turn off. Dryer gets hot and clothes are drying. It will do this in all timer settings. If i open the door the dryer will turn off but if i put my ear close to the timer i still hear it buzzing. I suspect the timer is at fault but looking for some advice.
model is mde3500ayw

If the timer motor is still running as you say you can hear it buzzing then the gear may be stripped. This is not completely uncommon in a 14 year old machine. Try replacing the timer, here is your part number
Whirlpool WP33001634 Timer - AppliancePartsPros.com
Don't be concerned about the Whirlpool label as Whirlpool now owns Maytag.

Timer did not fix the problem. Timer still does not advance and still makes a buzzing sound when dryer is off.

The beauty of diagnostics with APP if you purchase the part here you have 365 day return policy. So the other control board that continues the circuit for the timer motor is the Dryness Display board. Whirlpool WP33002389 Dryness Display - AppliancePartsPros.com

Look at the wiring schematic
Parts for Maytag MDE3500AYW: Wiring Information Parts - AppliancePartsPros.com
This is the other part that may be causing the issue you have, so return the timer and replace this part.
