Runs through cycle okay, but main soap dispenser doesn't open (can open by moving latch by hand). Doing 2 prewashes for now. Need to know if replacing actuator ass'y or ?????? is all I need and directions on how to. Sounds similar to a couple other recent posts but I didn't see any replys.

Lefty, Is there a problem with the timer as well, that you know of ? What about the rinse dispenser, does it work ? This dishwasher has a "mechanical" detergent cup, The detergent door catch is operated by a cam attached to the timer /knob shaft. As the timer and cam advance, there are certain points on the cam that cause the following arms and cams to move and release the catch, and activate the rinse agent dispenser. See attached dispenser mechanism test / access procedure. When you access the dispenser check for broken spring(s) and that the cam is aligned to the actuator draw arms. Dispenser Mechanism
1. Remove the front door panel. 2. Remove the drip cover. 3. Latch the detergent door closed. 4. Manually advance the timer through a complete cycle slowly. 1. At 12 o’clock position - Draw bars will move upward causing the detergent actuator assembly to release the latch and detergent cup should open. 2. At 4 o’clock position - Draw bars will again move upward causing the wetting agent actuator to release wetting agent. 3. From the 6 o’clock position to the 8 o’clock position the draw bars are driven down to reset the mechanism.
I do reccomend you turn the power off to the unit before you dismantle the door and check the detergent cup for operation.
I'm sure you'll have it figured out, and repaired in no time.
:) :) :)

Just to add my 2 cents...
Make sure the lower dish rack is in the right position and is not blocking the soap dispenser lid. I've seen it many times.
Gene.

Gene, I just bought a house and it looks like the lower dishwasher is a replacement and it won't allow the soap dispenser to open....I checked on parts and it looks like the same one would be the one to order.

JudiV., Turn the rack around. It could be installed backwards, that happens often, as well.
