We have a GE washer. Did a load of laundry today and oil spots are on most of it. Some spots big and some small. Took the agitator out and it looks like oil may be coming from around the shaft right under where the spline is. Is that seal replaceable? Please reply soon.

The seal is not sold as a separate part, but you might try an internet search to see if one is available. Also you should call the APP parts dept on Monday and see what they have to say about it, they may have something that can help you.

Yeah I assumed it was something that was not replaceable because all the schematics I can find does not show it. Thanks for your reply.

I am referring to the seal that is on the shaft with the splines that like goes into the big shaft. I have added a pic similar to what I am talking about. It seems the oil may have came from the area of the small shaft with the splines in it. Can this seal be picked out with something and match one up to it and it work? Can not get the pic to show up. I guess it is called transmission top seal.

There are seals that keep water from leaking out of the tub into the transmission and the transmission is sealed. If the transmission is leaking oil then that must be fixed or else the oil will leak out and the transmission will eventually fail.

It is the shaft with the splines on it and it goes into another shaft. It seems that is where the oil may be coming from. It was not oily under the agitator. But it did look like some oil may be seeping out from around the shaft with the splines on it.
