Washer runs, agitates but will not go into drain mode and pump out water.

Check your lid switch, this sounds like a classic lid switch problem. If you want confirmation open up the console and use a jumper wire to bypass the switch. If it works that confirms that the lid switch needs replacing.

My washer runs, agitates but will not start to pump out the water. Is the motor that drives the washer the same for the pump?

Yes, take the advice given. Washer will still fill and agitate with a faulty lid switch but will not drain or spin.
