Our Whirlpool Ultimate Care II washing machine started making a very loud noise during a load today. The water will drain, however it won't spin or agitate. I did some troubleshooting and it looks like the coupling is good. I am able to rotate it both directions and all plastic appears to be intact, although I didn't take it apart. From other reading online it sounds like it could be the clutch, although I don't want to blindly replace parts without knowing for sure. I'm including a dropbox file link to an audio file of the noise it makes, hoping that will help narrow down the issue.

It's not the clutch because the clutch has no function during agitation. It's most likely a faulty coupler. I would pull the motor and check it out.

It looks like you might be right. The part that connects to the motor was cracked. I'm ordering the replacement part now. Thanks!
