About once a week this customer says that her washer makes large holes in some clothes. I have seen them. The bellows has recently been changed. Could that be the problem? Or could it be the matching dryer? Both seem okay. Nothing unusual.

Any suggestions?

Gosh there really isn't anything I know of to make holes. It could be that a vane is loose and that clothing catches in the gap between the basket and vane but that would produce a rip, not holes.

I would take off the top of both the washer and dryer and examine them from the outside, maybe a screw or small nail that cannot be seen from looking at the inside is present.

Recently I worked on a dryer that had the stainless steel drum start to split along a seam. If clothing is caught on something like this it will tear up clothes in a hurry. This drum is made from very thin material and the weld seam is prone to split after a couple of years of use. I was able to repair it but if not caught in time it will not be repairable.
