my kenmore 80 series is having an agitation problem. the clothes seem to gather around the bottom of the agitator. it is spinning/filling/draining properly. the dog agits were replaced last year and look fine. when the washer is empty the top of the agitator spins freely clockwise and when i turn it counterclockwise the top "catches" and eventually spins freely with the bottom. any idea what the issue could be? tia!:)

Run a low level wash cycle with no clothes. Does the bottom part of the agitator go back and forth normally? If it's only going in one direction, then it's a bad transmission. If it's barely moving at all, pull the agitator and check for stripped splines up inside the agitator.

Thank you for your response. It looks like it's only going in one direction. :(
