My Kenmore Elite model# 11023012100 agitates well but won't spin. 1. I dsassembled the motor and Coupler is fine (later model 285753A). 2. Removed clutch. It looks good and cannot be pushed around by finger. 3. Agitator dogs work (moving agitator in one direction). 4. Lid switch in spin mode activates motor (running) but no spin.
What else can I try to diagnose no spin? Thank you.

Remove the cabinet and bypass the lid switch so you can observe the clutch hub while washer is in spin mode. If motor is running, coupler is spinning but clutch hub is not spinning, then the transmission is bad. If clutch hub is spinning then look up into brake hub to see if basket drive is rotating. If the brake spring is not rotating around then check for broken brake cam driver. A tab on the clutch band drives the brake cam driver which releases the brakes and rotates the basket drive.

Hello again Eric, With lid switch bypassed in spin mode clutch hub is spinning. Nothing in the brake hub is moving. Brake spring is in the same place where I left it after the first disassembly. I will access the brake hub and try to find out what is going on there. I will try to post a picture of the condition, because the first time I didn't really know what to look for. Thank you very much for your help! Dan

Ok, here's a photo of the bottom of the basket drive. The white part is the brake cam driver. You see the tab on it that hangs down into the clutch hub. The tab on the clutch band contacts that tab and drives the brake cam driver. The tab may be broken. I've also seen where the T-bearing in the bottom of the spin tube gets worn out and the C-clip that holds the brake cam driver on comes off. If the brake cam driver and C-clip are intact, you should be able to grab the brake cam driver by hand and rotate it CCW which should release the brakes and rotate the basket drive.

Hello Eric,
Could you post a picture of the clutch below showing the tab on the clutch band that contacts the tab on the brake cam. I don't recall seing it when I took the transmission off. This will help me better understand how it works. I will then, in a day or two, take the motor with transmssion off and do as you say in the previous comment. Thank you very much!

Or is it the caps holding the spring of the clutch that engage the brake cam?

Hello Eric,

Kenmore washer is now SPINNING WELL and is also going through all cycles. Here is what happened. I have removed motor with gear and clutch for the second time and had access to the bottom of the basket drive. Bottom of basket drive had no broken parts but was dirty and some light rust could be seen where pads rest on drum. I tried to move brake cam driver in the CCW direction but was unable to do so because of a lot of resistance. It looked like moving parts were “frozen”. Basket drive would drop for about an inch when pulled, and in this position there was rotation. I have repeated this several times while rotating cam driver and then suddenly there was a “snap” sound and basket drive parts were activated and basket was rotating. When re- assembled the washer was working well. I bought the washer on a moving sale and do not know its history but suspect that it was not used for a while. Was the law “Don’t use it -loose it” at work here or it was something else? I now know more about the inside of the washers than I ever thought I would. Hoping that this experience will help others, I thank you very much for your prompt help! Dan

Just stuck brakes. Hopefully, it will be ok now with continued use. If not, you would need to pull the basket drive out and clean and lubricate the pivot points of the brake shoes.
