My dryer runs for a minute or so and then stops. There is heat and the drum turns. What is causing this?

Here are your parts Parts for Whirlpool LE9500XTW0 Dryer - AppliancePartsPros.comWhen it shuts off can you restart it right away or do you have to wait several minutes? If it restarts right away then it is probably a bad connection somewhere in the motor circuit. Could be that the door switch is not quite closing properly then during a dry cycle the clothes open it and shuts the unit down. Try running it with no clothes and pushing on the door to see if it will run OK. If you have to wait for it to reset then it is related to the motor overheating. The motor has a thermal protect in it. If it overheats the protect trips and then you have to wait for the motor to cool down so the protect resets before it will start. Try rotating the drum in the correct direction by hand to see if there is too much drag. It should rotate fairly easily. You may want to try this on a couple other units to get a feel for it. Could be the seal at the blower is bad so hot air is blowing back onto the motor causing it to overheat. Try running it on air only to see if it will run OK. Could be a dirty vent system. Often this is a sign that the motor is on it's last legs. |
