After removing the motor rotor, both the rotor and the stator were extremely grimy. What is the best (safest) way to clean the grime off without damaging the stator? I have purchased a new motor rotor as the one on the unit had a broken piece.

Isopropyl alcohol should do the job and not damage anything.

Unless it is causing a problem sometimes it is just better to leave well enough alone.
