Hi! First time poster. My dryer stopped heating so I took out and inspected the heating element, and sure enough there was a break in the coil. I went and picked up a new heating element and installed it last night, and as soon as I turned on the dryer there was a pop and a burning smell and upon inspection the new heating element had snapped! The red wire side had popped right at the base of the terminal. So now I'm out $80 and scared to buy a new one as it might just break too! I obviously did something wrong. I just have no clue as to what that is.. Any help would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Here are your parts

As long as you had air flow when the heater came on I cannot see how it could be your fault. Unless you bent the heating wire where it blew out.

Sounds like the replacement unit was bad.

I rewired the element, and tried it again, 2nd result, success. I am thinking being a first time element changer, I let the wire touch somewhere and it popped.
Oh well, you live and learn. Thanks for the reply!
