I have an electric Kenmore oven that won't get to the selected temperature. I removed the temperature sensor and tested the Ohms at 1090, which I understand is within specs. The oven will not heat to 450, but we can usually get it to go up to 400. If it does not heat properly, we shut it off, wait a few minutes and turn it on again. Usually we can get it to start. I assume it is not the baking or broiling elements. The broiler element always comes on when needed, it is the baking element that does not always come on. Would this mean I need to replace the control panel?

If it is just that the bake element does not come on then it could be just a bad bake element.
Unplug the unit and check the bake element resistance, most of them are around 30 ohms.
It is very important to remove power from the unit as one side of the elements is always connected to power.
If the element checks out OK, check rhe wiring to the element.
If that is OK then odds are that the control board is bad. |

I tested the bake element and it registered 16 Ohms. Would that mean the element is bad? If you are not sure, where could I find the specs for this element?

Dis some searching and it looks like this element is 3500 watts so the 16 ohms you measure is OK. |

Okay, we have been away for a few weeks, and now the oven is having issues again. The broiler burner stays on and the lower burner does not stay hot. Things are burning on top.
Is it possible I put the connectors back on in reverse positions? The oven is a Kenmore and the replacement control panel was made by Fridgidair. Could this be the problem?
Help again.

Could this be the problem?[/COLOR] No. Kenmore does not make anything. The 790 at the start of the model number actually tells us that it is a Frigidaire unit. Grrrr. I'm growling at myself. I checked the wires and I had crossed them. I had the broil wire on the bake connection and vice versa. Thanks for the help.
