The popping noise is coming from the inside top of the fridge. It is actually the port on top that connects the fridge to the freezer. It appears that there is a flap of some sort that opens and then pops closed. It is a loud popping sound every time it does it and it is doing it about every 7 seconds. Anyone know what is going on?

I searched back thru old threads and found the following, which solved the noise problem, now I just have to monitor the temperature and see if we can live with the "fix"!! Previous post by expert: A model number may help others help you. Sounds like you may be referring to the damper. It controls the amount of cold air that enters the fresh food side of the fridge. Unplugging it should not damage anything. You will have to monitor the temperature in the fresh food section so that you do not freeze things or let things get too warm. The fresh food side should be close to 40 degrees F. Read more: http://forum.appliancepartspros...rator.html#ixzz393LLis7p http://forum.appliancepartspros.com

That was one of my old posts.
Unplugging the damper was not a fix. This was just a test to confirm that the damper was the cause of the noise.
Also a temporary solution as she was getting a repairman in.
The fix would be to replace the damper. |

Yes, it appears that the problem is the damper is faulty. Looking at the particular damper for your fridge, it appears that all you need to do is remove the cover that is holding the damper in place and then unplug the unit. The damper unit should pop out.

Thank you, I have ordered the "diffuser," which is what the damper is called for this fridge. There is a thick styrofoam cover over the diffuser and I cannot see how to remove that without breaking it, do you have any tips for that? I'm sure there is a way but I don't want to just pull on it.... Thanks for any further tips!!
