I need to troubleshoot a problem I"m having with a White Westinghouse dryer, model # DE650KDD-6. When I put the selector switch in one of the on positions, the dryer makes a humming noise and will not come on. I think my son has been turning the switch counter clock-wise. Can anyone help me?

Here are your parts Replacement parts for DE650KDD-6 models | AppliancePartsPros.comWhere is the hum coming from? Is it the motor trying to start? Try manually turning the drum in the correct direction. It should turn fairly easily. You may want to try this on a couple other dryers to get a feel for it. What you are trying to determine is if the drum has tt much drag and the motor cannot turn it. If it is OK. Open the door and hold the door switch closed. Then push the start button and manually turn the drum in the correct direction. Be careful in case it starts up you do not want to bruise your knuckles or get caught in the drum. This is a lot easier with two people. If it does start up then ods are you need a new motor. On proviso on this is if the heater comes on when the drum is not turning. This may indicate just be a dirty motor. If it is the motor I would not order anything till you open the unit up and see what if anything else you need to do a basic overhaul. The total cost of parts might make it a better choice to replace the unit. |

Created another post before I looked at this one - http://forum.appliancepartspros...ot-start.html#post843798My heater seems to come on when I put the timer in ON position but do NOT press the start button. Does that mean my motor is fine?

Finally got that. Was missing noticing the black door switch. So I set timer, pressed the black door switch and pressed the ON button and drum started rotating. So we put one load in the dryer and it seemed to work. After it stopped, we again have this issue of humming sound.
So did the above steps again and again dryer seems to be working. What could be wrong? I have opened only top panel so far and haven't looked at motor or anything else yet.
