There is a plastic splined coupling at the bottom of the tub. That can get "gunked up" and cause poor floating, too. That tub should float easily once filled.

I'm having trouble removing the inner tub. I purchased a spanner wrench for "Maytag" and that thing was way too big. TB123A. There is some kind of "nut" with 4 "grooves" that I need to remove to take out & I've had absolutely no luck. Can someone please let me know what I can use to take this thing out. I've tried everything. Screwdrivers, wrenches, pipe wrenches, etc.
