Need info on testing "cycling thermostat"

No
An open (infinite resistance) on the lugs on the round part of the cycling thermostat (internal heater) will not cause your problem. The symptom for this would be no low.
When a low heat setting is chosen the internal heater is turned on. This adds heat to the thermostat so it cycles more often resulting in a lower heat output from the main heating element.

Could be that you were just using too low of a meter scale to measure it.

Well, it looks like I wore my welcome out here.:( I still don't have an answer, but I guess I'll just take a chance and buy the thermostat first. Thanks for the previous help.

Well, thats odd you should mention that. Yes...I think I did. I just didn't know the scale to use. Well, ok, so I guess that means it's the coils, or can something else in the valve go kuput...like sticking or something? :confused:

What would you do at this point?

You may want to do some additional troubleshooting on the valve.

Note that I am not very good at gas dryer repair.
I do not repair these.
So you may want to start a new post with the model, symptoms (re the igniter is on) etc.
