My dishwasher started not filling some initial troubleshooting revealed that the float valve switch was broken (no continuity and floppy leaf spring). I ordered and received a new one from here and installed. Still no water. I checked the water supply (ok) and then checked to see if with the new float valve switch, I was getting power to the fill valve solenoid. I am not. So, I took out the new float valve switch and tested for continuity. There is continuity both with the leaf spring depressed and without it depressed which is confusing both because with continuity, I'm not sure why I'm not getting power to the fill valve solenoid and I'm not sure if I did, how the water is ever going to turn off via the float valve if it ever starts to fill. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Time for a new dishwasher?

Sounds like the switch is defective.
With the switch depressed it should be 0 ohms.
With it not depressed it should be infinite ohms.

Sorry but I do not understand the above.

The fill cycle is a timed event.
The overfill switch is just a safety device.

Check the wiring from the control board down to the fill parts.
If OK then you need a new control board.
