After a new floor installation, I came home to find my Kenmore cooktop/oven 's electornic control display blank. When turning on one of the burner control knobs, I get a with a "PF <time>" display. Normally, you just hold the "Off/Cancel" button and everything is fine.
Now, the PF goes off and you can set the time, but as soon as you turn the burner control knob off, the display goes blank. At no time do the heating elements heat, even though the "Cooktop On" light lights up.
The oven is the same, once any burner is turned on, you can set the oven temperature and start it, the PreHeat light even comes on, but the oven does not heat.
I have tried turning on the "Oven Lockout" function and turning it back off with no luck. My users manual references a Cooktop Lockout but I can find no instructions in the manual how to activate/deactivate it.
I am guessing that the flooring guys gave the unit a hard landing when moving it and I have an electrical damage. Trying to avoid a service call from Sears.
Thanks, Bob Craycraft Washington,DC

Your model number is incomplete. Kenmore numbers are usually 3 digits, a period and then an additional 8 digits.
I agree with you that is sounds like a power problem.
Try flipping the breaker off/on slowly a couple times. Sometimes you can loose half the line without actually tripping the breaker. Check the voltage at the plug L1 to L2 should be 240 volts L1 to Neutral and L2 to Neutral, both should be 120 volts. If OK Unplug the unit and check the wires at the terminal strip in the machine to make sure none are loose or burned out If OK Check the power at the terminal strip. Do this with the heater off and on. Be careful as 240 volts is lethal !!! |
