Ok here is a long story shortened for you to expedite this fix...Live in SoCal and we had a sewer pipe replaced (downstairs completely demolished) appliances were put in garage for approximately 1 month in extremely hot and humid weather and when contractor reconnected dishwasher he tested and door seal leaks quite a bit. In-laws say if you put any appliance in a hot environment and don't use it the seals shrink and crack. Insurance company has given me a bit of a hard time saying she has never heard of this. My question is can this happen and should the insurance co take care of this?

Oh by the way the sewer pipe repair was faulty pipe so the costs were on the insurance co. Any help I can get would be appreciated tired of doing dishes by hand :(

Thank you

Yes dishwasher gaskets will crack and dry up they need to be used or they can become damaged by lack of use but 1 month generally won't cause it, it's usually multiple months where people go on vacation for a very long time. The most common gasket replaced is the door gasket by the average person that knows nothing about why the leak is happening they just assume that's the problem. Door leaks are usually caused by the unit not being leveled all the way around after being installed it may not happen at first but eventually it will. Also one gasket that's always overlooked and a big cause of most leaks is the door wipe which is actually underneath the door. Things that will cause a leak: a bent door, a machine that's not level, bad door hinges, a stick float switch, a broken or stuck spray arm, a cracked tub seal on a stainless steel unit, leaking hoses, leaking sump pump gasket, and any motor piece connection underneath unit, a soap dispensor inside the door broken. These are the many things that can cause leaks. Call an appliance repairman to get something in writing for your problem because insurance companies are only rich because they like to screw the consumers.

Thanks for the information. After reading your message I left the agent a message to the affect that dishwasher was working fine before the demo and now leaks. My insurance agent called me and said they are sending out an appliance repair man who will take a look at it and that this was going to be on the contractor as they should have packed it out and back in correctly.

Thanks again,

Lisa :p
