I turned on the self cleaning oven portion for the first time. The door locked and the cleaning process started. I left the setting for 3 hours. At approximately 3 hrs an error appeared. I cannot remember the number but I hit Stop and the door remained locked. A little while later the door lock went out and I opened the door (carefully as it was still very hot) and found that there was residue left in the oven. The racks have a coating of sludge on them. I guess I am going to wipe all that stuff up once it cools down.
I wonder if this is correct? Anyone else have this issue?

A little while later the door lock went out and I opened the door (carefully as it was still very hot) This sounds normal

It is normal to have white/gray ash left in the unit, that must be wiped up. Most manufacturers do not recommend leaving the racks in the unit when doing a self clean, it will turn them dull. Wipe them off and then wipe the edges that ride on the side of the oven with a small piece of paper towel with some vegetable oil on it. Otherwise they will probably not slide very easily. |
