I cannot get this bolt to budge. I'm using a 7/16 socket which is the correct size - so is counter clockwise the correct direction? I sure don't want to round those corners on the bolt head...I'd really be "up a creek, etc..."

Yes, the 7/16" is the right size and the CCW is the right direction.

Hey, thanks for the help Gene! But, why can't' I get the bolt to budge? I know there's a rubber washer, but I can't make any headway. Any suggestions? Could the fact that I'm using the hinged extension bar have anything to do with it?

Make sure the socket is pretty tight on the screw head, grab the bottom part of the agitator with one hand and force the screw out. You can try a WD-40 first.
