Freezer coils freeze up. I replaced the defrost heater but it still does the same thing. The coil fins get iced up from te bottom to about 1 3rd of the way up.

The full length of the evaporator should be frosting up. The defrost system then melts the frost and it starts all over. The partial frost pattern you describe is a classic sign of a system low on freon.

If unit is low on freon will that also make it stop freezing. It will freeze ok for a day or two then the ice in the ice maker starts to melt and the food starts to thaw out.
