my ge freezer section was all iced up. i jumped the defrost thermostat and the heater came on after a few hours and started defrosting.so i assumed it was bad and ordered a new one.now i never see the heater come on? i checked the defrost thermistor and it reads 19.68 k ohms. the freezer will not get colder than 17 degrees and still has alot of frost on the top half of the coils.it was at 32 degrees with the old thermostat when it was all iced up.now at 17 degrees but will not get any colder? what do you think the problem is?

the top 6-8" of the condenser is covered with very thick frost.(the part closest to the light bulb) the bottom half has some frost. the fan does run. do you thing the defrost thermistor being at 19.68 k ohms is the problem? or the main board??

It looks to me like there is something wrong with the sealed system. Can you post a picture of the coils please?
Gene. BTW, this is evaporator. The condenser is on the back of the refrigerator.

Thank you for the picture. There is nothing wrong with the sealed system. It's not defrosting properly. Pull the refrigerator out of the wall and unplug it. Remove the wire from the J9 terminal on the main control board and measure the resistance between this wire and the wire connected to the J7-9 pin. If the reading is about 22 Ohms, replace the main control board. - The main control board Part number: WR55X10942
