About a week ago I noticed that food was defrosting in my freezer. the temp control was set to 3 (factory setting), so I turned it to almost 5 and cleaned out freezer to allow better airflow. This seemed to work and the next day, everything was frozen again. I turned it back down to 4 to see if it would keep frozen and it did. Yesterday, everything was defrosting again. I turned temp control to 5 again and this time it did not help, I turned it to 6 this morning and it is still slowly defrosting. I can hear it running though. I am emptying freezer completely tonight since I don't want to have to throw it all away. Any suggestions on what to check? The door seals are all fine. HELP.

Hi.

First check if the compressor is running.
If yes - remove the rear panel in the freezer and check the frost pattern on the evaporator coil. It should be covered evenly.
Make sure the fridge is running, both fans:evaporator and condenser are running too.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and http://www.appliancepartspros.c...gidaire-frs26kr4cq0.html

Post results.

by the time I received this reply, freezer had defrosted all over my wood floors. :( so obviously, there was no frost. I had already moved all the food so no loss there. Compressor seems to be the culprit. thanks.
