Do you think I would be better off trying to fix mine? I do know how to repair things. I was just thinking 22 years old, maybe it is time for a new one.

How about a Samsung WA422PRHDWR? Consumer Reports gives it its highest rating. We could definitely use a larger capacity washer.

I pulled the stop lug off and the pulley. I then reinstalled the stop lug. I can turn the shaft in both directions with some force and a pair of channel locks.

Did you check under the agitator yet? It shouldn't be that hard to rotate the input shaft. Here's the parts breakdown for your washer. If you want to look inside the transmission, lay the washer on it's back, rotate the transmission so the cover is up, place a container under the transmission and remove the cover, rotate the transmission to dump the oil into the container.

There is a screw in the side of the lower portion of the agitator.

I can feel it, but not see it. What kind of head is on it? I tried to take a picture of it and it appears to be stripped. Is it a screw or bolt? This agitator is getting agitating! LOL

Should be a small hex head. 1/4" socket should work.

When I pull the cover off, what should I be looking for?

You said you do know how to repair things. If you can't figure it out with the parts breakdown diagram then it's likely beyond your capabilities. It's a relatively simple transmission.
