Nic:) Well I am sorry I didn't give a follow up, but I avoided replacing the compressor by installing a hard-start capacitor and that resolved my issue. Thanks again everyone. Nic:)

Nic:) Another and final follow up: The machine died the other day. I noticed the hard-start had some wires burned and water on the floor from the freezer. There was oil and dirt on the condensor fan and coil, again. I was lucky that I had any success with this machine in the first place. I tried another hard-start but to no avail. Thanks again, Nic:)

If you installed a 3 n 1 hard start device, it blew out the compressor, in this forum, I never recomend them, period.

Hi Richappy, The refrigerator originally had oil and dirt on the fan and coil; it wouldn't work w/out the hard start. It did work for 3+ years with one, then it died for the second time. I believe I bought some time, on an otherwise worn out machine. It was the first time I've ever used one and I was quite pleased with the result when it cranked. So was it a success? I think so. Did it ultimately cause the failure? I doubt it. Would I use them again? Sure, as I mentioned the machine was essentially brought back to life with the use of the hard start and successfully ran for about 3 years. I believe the reason for failure was due to the initial state of the appliance essentially worn out. I found the machine all frosted up and was told it was that way for 6 months or better. Then after unplugging, attempting repairs on that issue, relocating and plugging it in again, it would only short cycle. The windings were already somewhat burned at this point .
