So we bought a Kenmore Coldspot side by side fridge model number 10656346500 and the guy said that there was a problem with the ice maker. when we finally got around to plumbing the water line we replace the filter and the water in the dispener comes out really slowly. the ice dispenser leaks water out the front ice dispenser also. So I started searching around on the internet. I started by changing the water valve. No change. I changed the water filter housing and no change. I have good pressure coming in the back, the inlet t valve is open all the way. I have run the water dispenser without the filter but I dont have a bypass to put in there(not sure what it is exactly), however the water flows good from the dispenser without the filter. With the filter in I disconnected the water tube running from the water valve, then up the door to the water dispenser and it is trickling out of that as well. After you try to run the water, there is a noise in the back upper area of the fridge that sounds similar to chewbacca noise minus the growl at the end. I have soaked the filter overnight also and it did get rid of the first noise we were hearing that sounded like air in the front lines that was audible while dispensing the water not after like the chewbacca noise. I read about purging the lines to get rid of sediment build up but we replaced the valve and the filter housing. anybody know of another part that i can throw on to see if it works? Any ideas? Any ideas for thawing the ice cubes out without making a total mess.I would like it if we could get the ice and the water working. thanks in advance for any help. Let me know if you need more info or if I confused you.

Cool thanks for the reply. I tried what you said. I did it for about 10 minutes and only got about 1/2 gallon. I found a youtube video that said to do it for 2 minutes. When I first hooked up the new filter, it coughed and sputtered air out the first couple times I tried. Now doing what you said, it is only putting out water, there is no air sputtering out. Do you still think I need to bleed it or maybe something else is wrong? the generic filter I got off of Amazon had mixed reviews, but nobody said it didnt work. I guess a couple of them blew up in the fridge flooding the kitchen. thanks for the help -Jesse

Hi Jesse,
What is the part number of the filter you installed?

I understand your point. Everyone would like to save money wherever it's possible. The original water filter for this refrigerator is Part number: 4396510
I've checked all available information and I did not find any reliable references for this aftermarket filter you used. That could be the culprit. I would recommend to order the original filter and give it a try. You may want to order it from APP because in such case you can return the part if it would not work. Gene.

Hey Gene thank you very much for all your help. My wife was in charge of ordering the filter and that was the only one she found apparently. Ill give that filter a try and if that doesn't work then I guess I will have to resort to an inline filter with the bypass in permanently. Thanks again its pretty amazing that people like you with the knowledge are willing to take your personal time to help out all of the people on here

hey I just wanted to follow up on my problem. I changed the filter to the one you mentioned Gene and it seemed to get a little faster but not much. I've been monitoring it and waiting to see if it sped up at all. It really hasn't much. It takes about 40 second to fill up a pint glass to the brim but it is fast enough I suppose. Would be nice if it was faster. Anybody know how long it takes for the average water dispenser to dispense a pint of water?

I am having the exact same trouble with my Kenmore water dispenser. Did you ever get a solution to your problem? If so could you please share?
