I moved mt GE washer to clean under it. when I went to wash a load it started maikng a bad grinding sound. The washer works fine, just makes the noise. I filled the tub with water for a small load of clothes, ran it with no clothes, and there was no noise. If I press down on the tub and turn the agitator it makes the grinding sound. :(

The model you have is on the list of models that can suffer from a sagging front apron. If the front apron sags, the support assembly under the tub can drop low enough that the motor pulley and/or the drive pulley will rub on the bottom of the washer. You should be able to see this with the front panel removed. There is a front apron bracket service kit available to fix this problem.

Thanks Eric, how do I remove the front panel, and could it be anything else?

Insert a putty knife into the top groove of the front panel in line with the lid opening on each side while pulling outward on the panel. Then just lift the panel off. Observe the pulleys while doing a load to determine if this is the problem. If not, try to localize the source of the noise.

So, with a full load, you don't see either pulley hitting the bottom of the washer? Can't really help you any further without seeing/hearing it myself. Can you post a video on youtube?
